WHAT MAKES ORIGINAL S.W.A.T. BETTER?

All Original S.W.A.T. footwear has one common root; they are all made on the same boot last. Regardless of the outsole design or the upper pattern, all Original S.W.A.T. boots are made on the same last.

The last is the “form” around which the boot is constructed. It gives shape and structure and contributes significantly to the fit and comfort of the boot.

Each company uses its own last and therefore, all boots fit differently. Our last was developed using the most modern computer-aided-design technology. This modern approach has enabled us to most accurately reflect the needs of today’s end user. Some products that are offered by older traditional manufacturers are using lasts that have not changed since the 1940’s. Since that time, the weight and foot shape of the average person have changed significantly. To provide the correct level of comfort and support, the last needs to be of a modern shape and design.

There are 3 product groups, distinct in their specialty, but overlapping in their usage. Choice depends on the primary functional requirement. The outsole/midsole design and construction are different in all 3 groups, giving each group a primary purpose: 


CLASSIC SERIES


The objective in designing this range was to produce a great all-around boot – the equivalent of a cross trainer for Law Enforcement professionals.
The essence of this product group is the interaction of the outsole/midsole/sandwich shank.
The outsole is designed to adapt to a variety of different environments. The lugs are sufficient in depth and spacing for outdoor use, and are designed to easily shed mud and debris. They also have sufficient surface area to provide complete versatility in an indoor situation.
The midsole is, at its greatest pressure point, ¾ inch thick and is made of compression molded E.V.A. Molding under pressure creates 3X the strength and durability, so that shock absorption and support endure for the life of the boot.
The sandwich lasting board construction provides support and torsional rigidity. The steel shank (which is like the backbone) is riveted in place between 2 composite lasting boards. This construction will support a 300 lb. person through a full range of motion.
The removable sock liner is common to all product groups. It provides a comfortable platform and can easily be removed and washed to remove bacteria and odor. Replacement sock liners (innersoles) are available and can rejuvenate a boot, since they have elastic polymer inserts under the pressure points, which will replace cushioning lost during the life of the boot.

SAFETY TOE

The safety toe outsole is classified as a “shell” mold. This all-around side wall construction is necessary to give the strength required to meet the A.N.S.I. standard of toe protection, and will soon be upgraded to the new ASTMF 2413 standard. Within the shell are two E.V.A. inserts under the forefoot and heel, to provide comfort and cushioning.
The lasting board/steel shank construction is our standard construction.
The outsole rubber compound is carbon rubber for extra durability and is both oil- and slip-resistant, and non-marking. The tread pattern is designed to have maximum surface contact, and has sufficient spacing to ensure small stones and debris are shed.

AIR S.A.S.

Air cushioning has been with us for over 20 years and is the technology that built the Nike brand. For out-and-out shock absorption and energy return, there is still nothing to beat it.
If there is a weakness, it is that under certain conditions it can lack rear foot stability.
Consequently, our outsole is designed to have a wider track to maximize stability, which simultaneously enables it to have the maximum amount of pressurized air, providing more cushioning than any other available product.
The outsole is a “court” style pattern, making it ideal for pavement use, and extended hours of standing.
Fast use on uneven terrain is not recommended, or use in an environment where puncturing of the air bladder is a possibility.

*Note: the 1230 and 1232 have the added benefit of being “metal sensor friendly”, as they will use a carbon fiber shank.
